White Horses, Dravidian Dithyramb and Seasons of Love on MIDI Sequence.

These are made by Noel, who has the MIDI-maker software thingy. OMG he's such a pro!

However do not really take them for granted hor! You can listen to them for a rough idea of how it's gonna sound like, but do not learn the song ENTIRELY RELYING on it, because you need to learn it yourself too. OMG I'm starting to sound like some teacher thingy.

And also some parts have mistakes (for White Horses), but it's really nevermind-ish and still can use one lah. And the thing is fantastic! Makes learning much easier (but still don't entirely rely on it hor!) and you'll have a rough gauge of what you are gonna be playing.

Thanks ah Noel! You rock man!

Paul MJ.

Finally!

Finally the skin is done!

Well, I spent a few weeks on it initially, for the school website competition thingy.

They said they'd upload it eventually, and I wonder when "eventually" is. Hmm...

So anyway, tired of waiting, I decided to just transfer everything to a Blogger account!

Not as easy as it seems hor!

So after two days, it's done!

Yay!

Will be looking to y'all to update often hor!

I've told most of the current SLs the account details, so if anyone wants it, ask them.

And if you wanna modify any part of the skin, please inform me before hand. This was hard work hor!

Okay, I know this skin very opiang. Hahaha.

But nice lor! (buay hiao bai!)

=)

The Links section is under construction. If you wanna be linked, please leave a tag at the tagboard.

Anyone with Dunman Choir media (pics, vids or audio) please upload them into a blog post, Imeem, Youtube or Photobucket.

DmnChoir Photobucket details are with me, please ask if you want them.

Okay, so that's all.

Cheers to DmnChoir!

Choir Camp 2008

Choir Camp 2008, a 3D/2N camp, was held from 30 May to 1 June 2008. This year's theme, "SURVIVOR BANSHENG ISLAND" was inspired by what our conductor, Mr Toh Ban Sheng, told us once. He once said, "If you could survive me (for your secondary school life), you could survive anything (else out there)."

The camp held to build camaraderie between all Dunman Choristers, regardless of seniority. Through the camp, everyone learnt how to get out of their comfort zones and adapt quickly to changes.

Before the camp, everyone had to prepare for their Talentime skit with their groups and despite not knowing each other well enough, everyone managed to work together perfectly.

The first day was filled with games, games, and more games. There were ice-breakers and night activities. Even though other CCAs were having their camps, everyone managed to conform to the limited space available in the school.

During the second day, there were rotational games and Orienteering, which had to be held in school instead of the venues planned around Tampines originally. Despite the change in plans due to the weather, the games were still very fun and everyone was on their feet, aiming to be the best group. After Orienteering, everyone, including the Camp Committee, Emcees, Alumni and teachers were busy in preparation for the Talentime.

For Talentime, each group had to perform a skit based on the theme, "Reality Shows". Every group had a well-delivered performance, albeit there was barely a fortnight to prepare. There were two Emcee performances by the emcees, Paul and Yuhan, and everyone had fun in "Bananas Of The World Unite". At the end of all the performances, the seniors and Alumni performed a series of songs including "When You Believe". At the end of Talentime, prizes were given out.

After Talentime there was a movie marathon in the Music And Dance Studio and everyone enjoyed watching "The Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen" and "Simpsons The Movie". Everyone enjoyed a bit of freedom at night, being able to choose whether to go for the movie marathon, sleep or play with their friends.

The next day, everyone had area-cleaning after breakfast to encourage responsibility. Everyone then went home, exhausted, but feeling that it was worth being tired because everyone had brought back with them valuable lessons learnt from the camp.

I Believe (2008)

This year's concert, I Believe, was inspired by what Mr Toh said to the first batch of Dunman Choristers, which contained the words "I Believe". With this inspirational message, they went on and became the first neighborhood school choir to achieve Gold for the Singapore Youth Festival Choral Competition.

I Believe, held on 8 April 2008, was a joint collaboration among Dunman Choir, St Anthony's Canossian Secondary School Choir, and Catholic Junior College Choir.

The three choirs had been working vigorously for three months, sacrificing their personal time for practices. However, they felt that it was all worth it.

Singing on stage was definitely a much different experience from singing in school, and performing to legions of people was simply nerve-wracking. However, majority felt that it was an exhilarating experience.

Dunman Choir performed Come Travel With Me, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Circle Of Life, Kasar Mie La Gaji and Ping An Ye. According to some blogs of both strangers and alumni, the performance proved to the audience that Dunman Choir was indeed an outstanding, versatile choir.

After Dunman Choir's performance, a combined choir from all three choirs performed a finale, singing I Believe In Springtime and One Day More from Les Miserables. Upon hearing the two songs, the audience roared with approval of how beautifully the three choirs sang.

After the finale, there was an encore requested by popular demand. The combined choir then sang An Irish Blessing to bid the audience farewell.

At the end of the concert, everyone went home, taking along with them a valuable experience of performing on stage.

About MR TOH.

TOH BAN SHENG (ζœδΈ‡θƒœ)
MUSIC

Toh Ban Sheng graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in 1992 and obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education in 1994. He further went on to earn two Master of Music degrees, in Choral Conducting (2002) and Voice (2003), both from the University of South Carolina.

Mr Toh started out as a self-taught musician and earned his first music qualification at the age of 26. He began his first formal music lesson with Cultural Medallion winner Choo Hwee Lim. His three-year stint at the Co-Curricular Activities Branch of the Ministry of Education, where he left as Music Specialist, catapulted him into the Singapore choral scene.

Since then, Mr Toh has carved out an impressive track record. At the national level, he has led his choirs to 14 gold awards, including the title of Best Choir of the Year in 1999 and 2000. He also conducted the 800-strong National Day Parade Combined Choir in 1999 and the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Combined Choir in 1998.

Mr Toh has brought conducting work to England, France, Hungary, Italy and Austria, and brought fame to Singapore at prestigious competitions in the Czech Republic, Finland and Germany. To date, his choirs have brought home eight gold and three silver medals. He was also awarded the Conductor’s Prize and Repertoire Prize in 2003 at the 4th International Competition Festival of Advent and Christmas Music in Prague.

Other than conducting, Mr Toh is equally passionate and at ease with solo singing. During his post-graduate studies, he was active as a soloist in public recitals and performances and was awarded 2nd place in the Southern Region Audition by the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) in USA.

In spite of his busy schedule, Mr Toh makes it a point to nurture aspiring talent. In 1997, he led the first neighbourhood school choir to clinch the gold medal at the SYF Choral Competition. He repeated the feat three years later with a primary school choir. Indeed, this is one young artist who not only strives for excellence himself but also inspires the young towards greater heights.

To date, Mr Toh is the residential conductor for Dunman Secondary School Choir, St. Joseph's Institution Vocal Ensemble, St. Anthony’s Cannosian Secondary School Choir, Catholic Junior College School Choir, The Raffles Junior College Chorale and the Raffles Institute Voices.
